Joseph Hiram Lamberth/The Alton Lambert Papers

While trying to track down any information at all about my Great-Great-Grandfather, Joseph Hiram Lamberth, I came across the works of one Alton Lambert. Alton has done a lot of research regarding the Lambert/Lamberth families, as well as history on Alabama and such. At any rate, I started trying to track down his book, Lambert/Lamberth families in America.
I've found a few libraries that have it, none of them anywhere near Texas, so I'm trying to see if I can get photocopies or something (since this book is largely non-circulating).
The University of Alabama has a large collection of Alton's papers, including family histories, and they were helpful enough to send me about 500 photocopied pages (I sent them a check and small donation to cover costs) of part of the collection that I thought might have some relevance. It's a hodge podge of data. A cursory glance found some info I didn't know, but as of yet, still nothing on Joseph.

Joseph Hiram Lamberth (1866-1848) was the son of Alexander "Alex" Lambert (1839-1901), a Civil War Vet from the Alabama 41st Regiment, Company G. Alex was born in Georgia and died in Caddo, Oklahoma (where he is buried). Most of the documentation I've found thus far about Alex, his father William Thomas Lambert (1821-1888) and grandfather Luke John Lambert (1797-1861) mentions him prominently, but mostly just mentions his Civil War participation and deal in Caddo. His wife, Mary Jane Traywick (or Traweek) (1840-1891) and children are mentioned, but I have nothing more than a name for Joseph Hiram. For whatever reason, Joseph is often listed as "Lamberth" while his siblings are listed as "Lambert."

My Great Uncle is old enough that he most assuredly asked his grandfather (Joseph Hiram) about family history. But in the few times I've spoken with him, he has not discussed the name change, even when I've brought it up. I'm hoping to spend an afternoon with him soon and find out what he knows.

Okay, first off, let me just say I'm bad about starting projects, particularly blogs, and then not working on them regularly. So if you come here and it's been awhile since I posted, just keep checking bad... I'll add something eventually.

Now, this blog is intended as an extension of my Family Tree work that I do with Family Tree Maker and Ancestry.com. I'll post stories of trips I've taken, ancestors found, interesting tales I've picked up and just any other little tidbit that might be of use to others who are looking for the same ancestors.
